"In
terms of my goals I have for myself after I graduate from
UND, I plan to pursue a career in Dentistry as an orthodontist. My
interest in
this field probably came about because my mom is a dental hygienist, so
I grew
up around teeth all my life. My dad is
always persisting that if I am anything less than a doctor, I would be
selling
myself short. I agree with my dad in
this aspect because I feel like I should go all the way if I want to do
anything at all. So influenced by my
parents, as well as my internal desire to give people a reason to
smile, I
would like to become an orthodontist. In
addition to this dream, I would like to attend graduate school in
either
Oregon, because of the natural beauty, of the University of Minnesota
in order
to be closer to my family."
That was a quote from my research paper which proposed the question if
being involved in an overwhelming amount of organizations would help my
chances of getting into dental school. The quote better explains why I
would like to become a dentist.
Listed below are the sites of the two Dental schools I would like to go
to after graduating from UND:
OHSU School of
Dentistry-Portland, Oregon
University of Minnesota-School
of Dentistry
Upon graduation of Dental School, assuming I get accepted and graduate,
I would like to participate in an outreach program called Operation
Smile. This program travels doctors to third world countries to
help children that wouldn't otherwise be able to afford the services
they need. Their motto is "Changing Lives One Smile at a Time"
and I think that is a great perspective, which is another reason I
would like to become a dentist. That is, to give people a reason to
smile. Below is the link to the website for Operation Smile.

Much of the information that is obtained about dentistry is found
through the American Dental Assocation (ADA). This organization
is the "leading advocate of oral health" and it is a site that I have
found very helpful in my research of dentistry. The website has
information regarding oral health, dental school, general knowledge
about dentistry, and so much more.

Another website that has been helpful in my personal research regarding
dental health is the Crest Pro-Health webpage. This site gives a lot of
background and knowledge of oral health and its importance.
