Access to and use of the Student Web Server requires that each user must read and
attest they understand and agree to abide by the NDUS, HECN, and UND Student
Web Server Policies. Users will acknowledge their agreement by signing
an electronic statement found at the end of each policy. The North
Dakota University System (NDUS) Policy will be presented first, followed
by the Higher Education Computing Network (HECN), and that followed
by UND Student Web Servers Policy.
The user is directed to open the links to the NDUS and HECN policies and
read them with care.
- Use of Web Server : The expectation is that the student will
behave in a way that is legal and ethical. This includes following
the rules of internet etiquette (sometimes called netiquette).
- Examples of inappropriate activities include, but are not limited
to: copyright violation; slander; creation and/or distribution of
computer viruses; vandalizing the data of another user; misrepresenting
yourself as someone else to cover up illegal activity; invading a
computer system for which you are not authorized; changing computer
data for which you are not authorized; intentionally degrading the
performance of a computer system; transferring or taking resources that
do not legitimately belong to you; and posting materials that subject
others to harassment or intimidation.
- The Student Web Server is not to be used for commercial purposes
such as advertisement.
- Direct links to site that offend in the way that these examples (and
any other unidentified but inappropriate uses) illustrate are a part of
the student's site and also constitute inappropriate use.
- Disclaimer: The homepage for each site must include the following
disclaimer: "The views and opinions expressed on this site are strictly
those of the site author. The contents of this site have not been reviewed
or approved by the University of North Dakota."
Students are encouraged to use good judgement in the construction of their
pages. If you have a question about the advisability of posting
particular material or information consult your advisor or instructor
as appropriate.
- Consequences of Misuse: Violations of the above policy
will lead to sanctions. Sanctions will be based on the use of the web site.
For example, academic misuse may result in the lowering of the score or
grade on a project; disciplinary sanctions could result in a verbal warning,
to locking the account and/or legal action, depending on the degree of
misconduct. The student is directed to
review the procedures and consequences described in the NDUS
POLICY MANUAL: Section: 1901.2 Computing Facilities, the HECN
Policy and Procedures, the current Code of Student Life, the
appropriate policies and procedures of the students
college and department or program, and the appropriate policies and
procedures of the Graduate School.
- Enforcement of the Policy: Enforcement procedures will be
initiated when a complaint is registered either with the Dean of
Student's Office or the Computer Center. All complaints will be
investigated in the appropriate manner. if the site appears to violate
any of the policies in force (including, but not limited to, the policies
of the NDUS, the HECN, the Student Web Server, or the Code of Student
Life), the student's college and department or program, or the Graduate
School) the Computer Center may be directed to lock the account or remove
the site. The Computer Center will lock the account or remove the site
immediately if it is a violation that causes degradation of the system.
Violation of any of the policies will lead to sanctions appropriate to
the misconduct.

Purpose: The purpose of the UND Student Web Server is to provide a place where enrolled UND students can post web sites that:
a. Are Résumés
b. Are Portfolios
c. Meet an Instructional Obligation (Instructional Use)
1. For purposes of this Server, Résumés means the
organization and presentation of data about ones education,
experience, and other qualifications that will assist the student in
securing a job; Portfolio means the presentation of
information and artifacts which show knowledge and skills concerning
a topic, discipline, or field that would demonstrate the students
expertise and would help verify the students qualifications for
a job; and Meet an Instructional Obligation means the
presentation of information associated with intellectual work done as
a part of the enrollment in a multi-student class or enrollment in a
class that is pursued by an individual student but in both cases,
classes supervised by a faculty member.
2. Length of Time Pages Can Be Posted: Web pages can be posted
from the time of the posting until the following AUGUST 15th. ALL
WEB PAGES WILL BE REMOVED EVERY AUGUST 15th. The student may
post the pages again by following the same procedures as before until
the next August 15, so long as they are enrolled. Any winter or
spring semester when a student is not enrolled will trigger the
automatic removal of the students web site from the student
server. Students are urged to retain a back-up copy of all
materials/pages posted to the server.
3. Where Is This Statement Posted: This statement is posted on
the sign-up form (this form), on the Computer Center Web-Site, and in
hard copy format at the Computer Center Offices.
4. Web Space Provided: Students will be assigned
space up to 30M (thirty megabytes) for posting a site on
the Student Web Server. Additional space may be petitioned from the
Computer Center on an as-needs basis.
